Tampico - San Salvador

Tampico - San Salvador

9th December - The weather was looking a little better today. Jennifer and Colin set off down the coast towards Veracruz, planning to cross over to the Pacific coast where there is the lowest ground. They dodged low cloud all the way down the coast, flying at 300 feet, and then slowly worked their way inland. The zig-zagging continued and with no great let-up in the weather they thought they would have to turn back. But then the skies started to look brighter ahead and they managed to cross low hills densely covered in trees....and into another world. Clear blue skies, high mountains, the Pacific Ocean and miles of white sandly beaches greeted them.

Half an hour later they landed at Bahia del Huatulco and could happily have stayed there for days. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and they were on their way again in under an hour. They headed south for San Salvador and enjoyed a great flight, landing at sunset. The friendly taxi driver suggested Jennifer and Colin stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel as it's the nearest one to the airport. This seemed like a good idea and as they were both exhausted, were looking forward to a good night's sleep. No such luck. The hotel was hosting a huge Christmas party for 800 people with a large and noisy band that was playing just outside their window in the garden. Jennifer spent the night trying to sleep on the bathroom floor.
